Women are indeed more often prone to hives than men

Most research on the issue shows that women are indeed more often prone to hives than men. In chronic spontaneous urticaria, we would even talk about a distribution of two women to one man!

Surprisingly, this distribution is not found in children, i.e. young boys get sick about as often as young girls. It is still not clear why more adult women develop chronic spontaneous urticaria than men. It is probably because this form of hives is more severe and lasts longer in women, or because women are more likely or willing to go to the doctor for their health problems.
